This game, "Crandom," is designed to inject some unpredictable fun into long car rides or any situation where boredom might strike a group of family or friends. There are no game-boards, pieces, responsibilities included save for these instructions provided and a lively group of individuals both willing and interested in testing out some simple-fun!
Objective: Be the player with the fewest points when someone reaches the pre-determined point limit (e.g., 21). Points are accumulated by failing to provide an unrelated noun within the time limit or by repeating a previously used noun.
Players: 2 or more
Materials: None (just your voices and quick thinking!)
How to Play:
Set the Point Limit: Before starting, the group agrees on a target number of points (e.g., 15, 21, 30).
Establish Turn Order: Decide on a clockwise (or counter-clockwise) order for turns.
Starting the Round: The first player begins by saying any noun that is not a:
Proper noun (names of people, places, specific things like "Eiffel Tower," "Aunt Susan," "Toyota Camry").
However, general terms like "mother," "father," "city," "car," are acceptable.
The Two-Second Response: The player to the left (or next in the established order) has a strict two-second window to respond with a completely unrelated noun.
Continuing the Chain: The third player then has two seconds to provide another noun that is completely unrelated to the noun spoken by the second player, and so on.
Strategic (Optional) Thematic Bursts: While the core of the game is unrelated nouns, a player can strategically introduce a noun that belongs to a broad category (e.g., "furniture," "food," "colors," "animals"). If the subsequent player can then quickly think of another noun within that same broad category that is still unrelated to the immediately preceding noun, they can use it. However, this is a risk, as it might make it harder to find an unrelated word for the next player.
Earning Points:
Time Out: If a player fails to say an unrelated noun within the two-second time limit, they receive one point, and a new round begins with the next player in order.
Repeated Word: If a player says a noun that has been used at any point previously in the game (even in a prior round), they receive one point, and a new round begins with the next player in order.
Game End: The game continues until one or more players reach the agreed-upon point limit. The player(s) with the fewest points at that time is/are the winner(s).
Example Gameplay:
Player 1: "Table"
Player 2: (Within 2 seconds) "Cloud"
Player 3: (Within 2 seconds) "Bicycle"
Player 4: (Within 2 seconds) "Ocean"
Player 1: (Within 2 seconds) "Spoon"
...and so on.
Scenario where a point is awarded:
Player 1: "Book"
Player 2: (Hesitates for more than two seconds) - Player 2 gets a point. New round starts with Player 3.
Round 1:
Player 1: "Tree"
Player 2: "Car"
Player 3: "Hat"
Round 2:
Player 4: "House"
Player 1: "Shoe"
Player 2: "Tree" - Player 2 gets a point for repeating a word. New round starts with Player 3.
Tips for Playing:
Be quick and think outside the box!
Listen carefully to the words that have already been used.
Don't overthink it β sometimes the most random word is the best.
The "thematic burst" strategy can be risky but rewarding if executed well.
Have fun and embrace the silliness!
